ARLINGTON -- Franklin Lawrence Smith, 89, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, in Arlington. Memorial service: 7 p.m. Monday at Wade Family Funeral Home Chapel, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. prior to the service. Frank was born on May 19, 1924, in Ashland, Ohio, to Franklin and Helen Smith. He was in the U.S. Army Air Corps 1942-1946. He was a main contributor of historical information and documentation for the World War II Bartow Air Base Museum in Bartow, Fla. A resident of Arlington since 1976, he retired as a plant manager with Crown Cork and Seal after 30 years of service. He loved to travel in his motor home and enjoyed the outdoors. Survivors: Beloved wife of 69 1/2 years, Mildred Sutherland Smith; son, Franklin Smith and wife, Donna; daughters, Carol Denton and husband, William R., Valerie Lindsey and husband, Tommy; brother, Floyd Smith; niece, Helen Gains; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
