ARLINGTON -- Frank Linton Morris, a retired colonel, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, of complications from pneumonia. Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at the Episcopal Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, 3900 Morris Lane, Arlington. A reception will follow in the church hall. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the ASPCA or the Sierra Club. Frank retired from full-time work a year ago, at age 89, after 24 years at Lockheed Martin. He embodied the saying that one should live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever. His plans for retirement were to go back to school and earn his Ph.D. in physics and to write a book about the origins of the universe, which he had partially completed at the time of his death. In the year he was retired he taught himself Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. Frank was born Nov. 25, 1922, in London, England. His father was a carpenter and cabinet maker, but through hard work Frank won a place at the prestigious Stationer's School, and from there attended the University of London, graduating in 1942 with a degree in pure mathematics. He later went on to earn his master's degree. He was admitted as a Fellow of the British Institute of Electrical Engineers in 1968, and as a Fellow of the British Institute of Management in 1969. He was made a chartered engineer (equivalent of a PE in the U.S.) in 1989. Frank joined the British Army when he left college and helped refine radar during World War II. This work earned him several medals as it was considered vital work in the Allied victory. He remained with the British Army, attaining the rank of full colonel, and retired in 1974. While in the Army he lived all over the world, from Hong Kong and Singapore to Germany and North Wales. In 1974 he began work for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). It was then that he and his family moved to America. In one of his proudest moments Frank became a United States citizen in 1991. He was proud to live and work in the great state of Texas. Frank was married to Irene, who was a registered nurse, in 1950 in Reading, England. They had been happily married for 62 years at the time of his death. He lovingly and single-handedly took care of Irene, who had been an invalid for several years. Frank is also survived by his son, John William Morris; his daughter, Shauna Frances Morris; granddaughters, Fiona Robertson-Morris, Diane Morris and Suzanne Morris; grandsons, Christopher Morris, John Neville and Douglas Neville. He also had three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by daughter, Patricia Ann Neville, and granddaughter, Helen Neville. Wade Family Funeral Home Arlington, 817-274-9233
