ARLINGTON -- Doris Kristine Andersen Gray, 90, of Arlington passed away Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014. Service: Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington will host the visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and the memorial service at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Graveside prayer will follow in Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her favorite charities: Danish Heritage Museum in Danevang, Texas, U.S. National Park Service, or Paralyzed Veterans of America. She was born on Nov. 27, 1923, to Hans and Anna Andersen in Danevang. Doris was a loving wife and mother whose radiant and adoring smile touched all who knew her. Doris was proud of her Danish heritage and she loved celebrating the Danish tradition of "dancing" around the Christmas tree with her family. Doris' baked "peppernuts" were always part of each Christmas. Doris moved to Arlington in 1956 and was actively involved in supporting her community. Her community service included 70 years as a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, the Arlington Woman's Club, the Engineering Wives Club, and volunteering at Theatre Arlington. Genealogical research was a passion of hers, and her work on the Andersen/Knudsen family tree was published in the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her loving and meticulous attention to detail pertaining to family history and family events will be enjoyed and cherished by her loved ones for generations to come. She enjoyed gardening, nurturing her African violets, traveling the world, and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward A. Gray; son-in-law, Terry L. Lewis; and grandson, Joseph Phemister. Survivors: She is survived by children, daughter, Kris Lewis and Bill Bowman; daughter, Lori Phemister and husband, Randy; son, Ed R. Gray; grandchildren, Becky Milne and husband, Frank, Anne Masterson and husband, Daniel, Nina Creasman and husband, Tyler, Zach Folta, Jamie Folta, Kelli Folta, Geoff Phemister and wife, Chelsea, Deshea Sorrells and husband, Doug; siblings, Virginia Hall and husband, Harry, Kenneth Andersen and wife, Karyl, Roger Andersen and wife, Betty, Loraine McCarty and husband, John; loving sorority sisters; loved ones, Carl Jones, Celisa Henderson and family; Brandon Bowman; nine great-grandchildren with two more on the way; a multitude of extended family and friends.
