Donald Ray Phillips, 78, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2020 in Arlington, Texas. Memorial service is Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 11:00 am in Wade Chapel, Arlington, Texas. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org. Don was born on September 22, 1942 in Paris, Texas to Carroll McDonald Phillips and Helen Rhea Ballard Phillips. Raised in Fort Worth, Don always had a love for art. He started his art education with private oil painting lesson at the age of 12. Attending Fort Worth Technical High School where he majored in commercial art, Don went to work for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram as an advertising layout artist out of high school. He even did a tour in the Marine Corps as an illustrator. Don returned to the Star-Telegram in 1967 as the Advertising Art Director. After 40 years as a commercial artist and photographer, Don retired and did what he always loved…he painted. Don was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Sam Phillips and Michael Phillips. Survivors: Wife, Sandra Lee Butzlaff Phillips; children, Craig Phillips, Angela Phillips, Jay Brown, Sandra Brown Hill and Michael Brown; sister, Rebecca Phillips Graham; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family members and friends.
