Cora Teresa Godwin

Terrie Godwin “Nana”, age 94, went to be with our Lord and Savior on August 7, 2022 in Arlington, Texas while surrounded by the love and care from her three children.

Terrie, born on September 22, 1927, to Walter LaCour and Mary Bernice Dougherty in Colfax, LA, immediately brought joy and laughter into the world. She and her four siblings were raised in Wichita, Kansas where Terrie went on to graduate from an all-girls Catholic school in 1945. In 1946 she moved to El Paso, Texas where she met and married Carlton Dee Godwin. Terrie and Carlton “Bob” resided in Sunrise Acres in NE El Paso for the next 60 years where they raised three children, Dee, Dovie, and Dell, and enjoyed fishing, boating and playing cards as well as vacations to visit family. In 2006 Terrie moved to the Arlington area to be closer to her children.

Terrie fell in love with the women’s fashion industry which kicked off a 10-year career managing and selling high end women’s clothing in El Paso, Texas. She then went back to school and received a certification in Floral Design and worked for House of Flowers designing arrangements in NE El Paso for many years. Terrie also worked very hard supporting her husband’s real estate and construction company, Godwin Construction, prior to retirement.

Terrie was a fiercely dedicated mom, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother. Family came first and was above all else to our “Queen Mother” Terrie, a value she instilled in all those around her. She was an amazing woman who taught those around her how to love, laugh and live life to the fullest. The hole left by our sweet Momma, Nana, Aunt Terrie is an absence impossible to fill.

Terrie was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Mary Bernice, her husband Carlton “Bob” Godwin, siblings Johnny, Joe, Willy, and Rita, and son in-laws Wilmer Harris Patten Jr and Walter Thomas. She is survived by her 3 children Dee Godwin, Dovie Thomas, and Dell Patten, 6 grandchildren Deeter Godwin, Troy Godwin and wife Lisa, Chris Patten and wife Ruth, Gwen Patten, Priscilla Patten Estrada and husband Jesus, and Leigh Thomas Kesler and husband Bob. She was especially proud of her 13 great grandchildren Emily, Clayton, Brooke, Sydney, Jackson, Landon, Lily, Tyler, Weston, Jaycee, Harris, Landon James and Kelsey.

Celebration of Life Service to be held at Wade Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Pkwy, Arlington, Texas 76013 on August 19, 2022 at 2:00 pm. Terrie will be laid to rest next to her husband Carlton Dee Godwin at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, Texas at a later date and time.

Guestbook

  1. CandleImageI never met this awesome lady. She was at the wedding of her granddaughter Leigh Thomas Kesler who married my nephew Bob Kesler. She led an incredible life! I know her family and friends will miss her dearly. During her long life, she was very successful in several areas. I am happy to know Leigh and Dovie and will celebrate her life with them as they grieve and learn to survive with their memories. God’s blessings!

  2. Aunt Terrie was one of the sweetest, most kind, talented, stylish and patient “Aunts” in the world. So many of us will miss her, but her wonderful personality and her love – was passed down through to her wonderful children. So, in a way, Terrie will be with us always.

  3. God bless this wonderful woman and loving family.

Only the fondest memories of precious moments spent with our two families.

Deepest condolences from Curtis and Janine
