She was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and had a Bachelors of Arts degree in Education and Religion as well as a Masters degree in Education, both from TCU.

She was an elementary school teacher teaching in Dallas and Arlington ISD, fiercely loving her students, parents and fellow teachers. She was awarded an Honorary PTA Life Membership when she retired from teaching.

Carolyn loved to shop, read, play all kinds of games and was very competitive in her game playing. She enjoyed big holiday celebrations and decorating her home for every season. Carolyn had a green thumb, filling her home and patios with thriving plants and flowers.

She and Dick traveled all over the world after retirement. She loved buying mementos and ornaments from their travels and even wrote on each one where they had been.

Carolyn was a wonderful Grandy and Great-Grandy/GG to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She gave hundreds of “sussies” over the years, delighting in giving those small, personal gifts to everyone she loved.

Memories Timeline

  1. A lady who took her job as wife, mother, grandmother and servant of God seriously!!
She touched many lives during her days on earth.. RIP Carolyn!!

  2. I will be holding you all in my thoughts. I still think of all of you on Christmas Eve Eve, and the wonderful celebrations we had as children. I will remember her fondly.

  3. I was able to visit Aunt Carol and Uncle Dick & Family back in Arlington Texas (2018) – I was with my brother Mark & Nadine and sister Lisa. Carol had a word game on her Lap top (I can’t remember the name of the game) Carol and I were not able to figure out the answer – so the others said give us the game and we will give you the answer – so after a few minutes Carol leans over to me and says “I guess they are just as stupid as we are” I laughed so had I had tears in my eyes.

  4. Glad to have known Carolyn and to have enjoyed many memorable Christmas Eve-Eves with the Guthillers. She will be missed.
