ARLINGTON -- Bernice Katherine Murphy, 85, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, in Arlington. Memorial service: and Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 1200 S. Davis, Arlington, 817-274-0643. A rosary will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Memorials: In keeping with Berni's ideas of service to others, donations to the League of Women Voters Arlington or UNICEF are welcomed. To celebrate her joy in living and gratitude for blessings, red roses or carnations are also welcomed. Berni was born in 1926 in Ontario, Canada. She studied journalism in Toronto and art at UTA under Howard Joyner. She first came to Dallas to visit Neiman Marcus, where she met her husband, Jack, at a St. Patrick's Day party. She became a citizen, married Jack and named their first child Patrick. She was a longtime member of the League of Women Voters with an emphasis on public relations. She was an active member of St. Maria's parish with Renew Team, Leisure Club and Women's Guild. She was also an early member of Arlington Art Association and Arlington Democratic Club. Survivors: Husband of 54 years, Jack; sons, Patrick and Michael; daughter, Sharon Whittington; son-in-law, Edward Whittington; daughter-in-law, Angie Murphy; and granddaughters, Dr. Megan Murphy, Brooke Murphy and Whitney Whittington.   1. I am so sorry to hear of Bernice’s passing. I hate that I didn’t get to see her much over the last several months since she has been so sick. Jack, she was a lovely and caring woman.
