Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and immense sadness we announce the passing of our beloved son and brother, Newell “Barker” Wallace IV on Friday, April 26, 2019 at the age of 28. He fought hard against the powerful brain disease of drug addiction for 11 years, and despite many courageous attempts at recovery the disease proved too strong. However, we take tremendous comfort in the knowledge that he was a Christian, and he is now with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, free from the chains that bound him and finally at peace.

Services: Barker’s Celebration of Life Service will take place on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at 1pm at The Marq in Southlake, TX. This will be followed by a visitation/reception until 4pm.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Barker’s memory to Solstice Recovery Foundation at www.solsticerecovery.com. Please click on the “Donate” tab, choose your payment method and then click on “Write a note” near the top to designate your donation in Barker’s name. Donations will go to support those seeking recovery treatment who do not have the financial means to do so.

Barker was born on January 24, 1991 in Arlington, TX and spent his first 18 years living in Southlake, TX and attending grades K – 12 at Southlake Carroll ISD. He was joyful, loving and kindhearted and was a great source of pride and happiness for his family. From the time Barker was young, he was passionate about playing and following sports. His love of sports led him to become a Manager for his high school’s football team, boys’ and girls’ basketball teams and girls’ softball teams. Barker was often the “heart and soul” of the team, pushing them to be the best they could be. He never missed a single practice and was always there for his teams. Barker had a truly remarkable personality and the unique ability to befriend anyone. In high school, he was voted “most friendly” twice by his peers and was also elected homecoming prince. He truly embodied and lived out the Golden Rule and treated people the way he wanted to be treated. Barker’s beautiful soul and spirit will be deeply missed by his family and many friends, but he will forever be in our hearts.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim and Wilma Howie and Garland Lary.

Survivors: Barker is survived by his parents, Newell and Lucretia Wallace; brother, Britton Wallace; grandmother, Dorothy Lary; aunt, Anne James; aunt and uncle, Lucia and Stephen Shipley; cousins, Austin James, Stephen Shipley, Laryssa Shipley, Scott Shipley and Sean Shipley.

Barker was the kindest, most gentle soul and the BRIGHTEST light in this world. He was so special to everyone who met him - whether it be through Church, School or Chick Fil-A in Southlake - he ALWAYS greeted you by name with such enthusiasm your day would be changed just from a chance encounter with Barker! The entire Wallace family is in my thoughts and prayers for the days, weeks and months to come. We will all see Barker again one day and he will greet us at the gate with that HUGE bright smile!
RIP Barker - Godspeed dear, sweet young man!

I’m sorry for your loss and I wanted to send my heartfelt condolences. I personally look forward to the promise of a future, earthly resurrection. (John 5:28,29; Isaiah 26:19) We have the opportunity to see our loved ones again under the peaceful conditions described at Psalms 37:10,11. I hope these scriptures bring you some comfort during this difficult time.

Sincere condolences. This disease took both of my brother's lives. A tree is how we would like to honor Barker's life and memory.

I met Barker around the end of April through this girl who'd been friends with him for about 3 to 4 years, her a me was Kat. The first time I met Barker, he was smiling. & I felt comfortable being around him. I wanted to get to know him better. We exchanged numbers and not even a few days later Barker calls me up in tears, not even knowing me asking if he can please stay at my place cause he'd been left at some gas station so I'm like " Can you send me the directions to where you are located? I'll send an Uber or Lyft to pick you up. Ok ?" It should be there within 10 minutes.
The minute he arrived at my apartment, Barker came right up to me and thanked me up adm down.l for helping a complete stranger. I said " I'm not going to allow anyone to sleep outside, if I'm able to help someone in need, who I obviously feel safe with then I'll do that for you.
I informed Barker i needed to be up early for work, and that he'd need to leave when I'm leaving. Which he did as I asked, I knew I'd be able to trust him at that point. About two weeks later, the same thing occurred, though this time I said to Barker. " Your more than welcome to stay here with me if you need a place to live. There's a futon you can sleep on, I've got pillows and blankets also if you would like to have them. Of course, if you stay, id need help with the electric bill, and some rent. If you can do that for me then i can do this for you."
Barker turns to me and says " Amanda, no one has ever done what your doing, you've opened your home to me and to make me feel welcomed. Thank you for your generosity. I really appreciate everything you've done for me." I repsonded back to Barker and said: " Honestly, Ive been in need of a place to live (even if it was short term.) Even when I was able to provide rent, along with paying towards part of the electric bill, however for some reason I've never been given a chance to do just that. Now that I've got my own place, I'm able to do what I had only wished I'd been able to do, that's why I decided to give you the chance to have what I never got & that my friend is for you to not have to feel anymore anxiety on where I'll have to set up my tent, or who do i ask to stay at their place without feeling like I'm inviting myself into someone's home when they obviously don't want me there."
During that timw Barker and I became best friends, we fought, but moslty laughed. I'm truly missing you Newell. I'll always have much love for you! I know you'll ALWAYS be alive in our ❤️ 😘 hearts. I only wish I was able to say goodbye to you tomorrow & my heart's broken 💔💔 because of this. I wish I'd be able to say goodbye to you my dearest friend 💔
I wish I had a plane ticket to say farewell to you. I'll see you again bestie xoxox I know you are watching over us all!! Much love to you B xoxxo

We are so saddened to hear of Barkers passing. Thinking back on Barker from elementary school through high school, he was always always the sweetest, kindest young man and so polite. May he be at peace now.
