Sam was born on July 6, 1954 in Waxahachie, Texas to Carlisle Aston Herrin and Mary Sue Ward Herrin. He graduated from Italy High School and was a graduate at the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He had a successful career working for Freight Master, Halliburton, Vought, Gearhart/Owen, Magna Engineering and spent 25 years running his own company, Sam Herrin & Associates. Sam loved wood working, making many handmade creations for his loved ones and family. He also had a passion for photography, and was the official designated photographer for all family vacations and holiday gatherings. He also enjoyed hunting, golfing, traveling with family and watching University of Texas football. Sam was a godly man, fun loving and just enjoyed life in general, but most of all, he loved spending time with his kids and five grandchildren. They were the light of his life and brought him so much joy. He was known for his quick wit and joking manner, his kind and generous heart and for leaving a lasting impression on all those he met.

Sam was preceded in death by his father, Carlisle Herrin; and brother, Charles Herrin.

Sam and I met when I was in the 3rd grade and he was in the 1st. We've had a lifelong friendship that always brought us back together after we'd gone in different directions due to our love for Italy High School. Every one who knew Sam knew that when their paths crossed he would have that winning smile and be glad to see you. He was a man who all respected, a man of integrity and immense character. I will miss him but I and we will be seeing him again when we're called home. That gives me great comfort. Rest in Peace, old friend.
