Obituary for Charles Ray Dollar

Charles Dollar passed away November 13, 2018, in Fort Worth, TX. Visitation will be at Wade Funeral Home, Arlington, on Thursday, November 15, from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral service will be Friday, November 16, at 11 am at Saint Alban’s Anglican Church, 911 S. Davis, Arlington. Burial will follow at Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington.

Charles Ray Dollar was born December 10, 1932, in Hillsboro, Texas to William Roy (Jack) Dollar and Pearl Petty Dollar. Charles, known by most as Charley, grew up in Hillsboro. He attended Del Mar Junior College, Corpus Christi; the University of Texas at Austin; and McNeese University, Lake Charles, LA and was a football running back at each campus.

In 1954 Charley married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Annette Keenum. The marriage was blessed with three beautiful daughters: Rebecca, Susan, and Jennifer. Charley began his career as a teacher and coach in Sulphur, LA. Later he and Shirley moved back to Texas where he taught and coached at Jacksonville High School. Ultimately, he chose sales as his lifetime career and retired in 1993 from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company (now AT&T) where he worked in Yellow Page sales, training, and management.

For a number of years Charley and his brother Bob owned and operated an antique store on a part-time basis. Though he left the business, he never lost his love for antiques, estate sales, and just the ordinary garage sale. He was a collector! He also enjoyed hunting and for many years shared a hunting lease in Southwest Texas.

Charley was preceded in death by his father and mother, his brother Bob and sister-in-law Frances.
He is survived by his wife Shirley; daughters Rebecca Evans, Susan Fuchs and husband Cheyenne, and Jennifer Stoecker and husband Mark; grandchildren Christopher Evans, Eric Evans, Amy Stephenson and husband Aaron, John Charles Edwards, and Jack Fuchs; sister-in-law Linda Sanford and husband Tommy; nieces Laurie Mounce and husband Tray and Lisa Adams and husband Kenneth; four grand nephews, and multiple loving Dollar cousins.

Should anyone wish to honor Charley’s memory with a donation, favorite family charities include James L. West Center for Dementia, 1111 Summit, Fort Worth 76102, and Saint Alban’s Anglican Church. Charley became a member of Saint Alban’s Church in Arlington in 1963 and has continued to worship there. Charley loved people, and people loved him. He was a fun-loving, gregarious free spirit. We all shall miss him but are grateful for the long, rich life he enjoyed and the love he brought to our lives.
