Obituary for Leonard Wesley "Wes" Alphin Sr.
Leonard Wesley Alphin, loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 2nd, 2018. He was 75 years young.
Wes was born on July 26th, 1942 in Fort Worth, Texas to Johnnie and Inez Alphin. He was the oldest of three siblings, all of which were raised in Fort Worth. Wes was swept off his feet by Miss Evelyn Maner when he met her at the drive-in, and they were married on February 3rd, 1961. They were the loving parents to Jonnie Kay, Leonard Wesley Junior (aka Bubba), and Leslie Ann. They lived a few places as a growing family – starting their lives in Fort Worth, moving out to Granbury, spending time by the beach in Port Aransas, and finally settling in Arlington, Texas.
Wes had quite the illustrious career. From 1964-1968, he was a Reserve Officer with the Fort Worth Police Department, and went full-time with the FWPD from 1968-1977. In 1977, he took a job in Narcotics with the Drug Enforcement Agency, which he retired from as a pilot in 1989. He spent the rest of his working days as an entrepreneur, launching “Kool Air,” from which he officially retired in 2013. Not one to spend time relaxing, Wes could often be found riding his tractor and taking care of his ranch (I&J, named after his parents) in Graham, Texas. When he wasn’t at the ranch, he could be found spending time with his family, learning how to work with leather or scraping the last bite of peanut butter fudge out of the pan.
Wes was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Inez Alphin, and his brother, Tommy John Alphin. He is survived by his “honey” Evelyn Alphin, wife; Kay and Jim Anderson, daughter and son-in-law; Bubba and Amy Alphin, son and daughter-in-law; Leslie and Scott Weir, daughter and son-in-law; Courtney Moore, Shelby Weir, Wesley Alphin, Caitlin Anderson, Kyndal Anderson, Jimmy Anderson, and Thomas Weir, grandchildren; Nina Moore, Bentlie Frazier, and Trinitie Frazier, great-grandchildren. He was also survived by Larry and Hilary Alphin, brother and sister-in-law, as well as numerous cousins, extended family, and friends.
